When Marie Antoinette (arguably) uttered her famous words, “Let them eat cake”, she must’ve been speaking to every single C.E.O. and mid- to upper-level manager on the planet. Nearly every week, there has been a reason to have cake at ALL offices I’ve worked at since I began my life as a publishing rat: Ana’s having a baby… Let’s have cake! There’s a Monday morning archiving meeting… Let’s have cake! It’s Wednesday… Let’s have cake! Who knew that the French revolution could have such a profound effect on the happiness and waist lines of office workers all around the world?
(She mulls on the question pensively as she devours the last piece of almond and orange cake from the Creative Services department’s Christmas chicken and champagne breakfast. Happy Christmas!)
