List 002: Where to get Vietnamese rice paper rolls

Food

In my quest for tasty, Ayurvedically-sound food around Melbourne, I have fallen in love—and consequently become obsessed—with the unpretentious Vietnamese rice paper roll. And I’m not talking about soggy rolls that have been sitting out for hours in a shop window along with salmonella-infested sushi. I’m talking about the stuff that’s served by middle-aged Vietnamese migrants (mildly cranky for having their late-afternoon newspaper read disrupted);  slightly warm, crunchy rolls with peanut sauce packed with flavour. These are the joints I’ve discovered so far:

  1. Binh Minh: Victoria St, Richmond (my rating: 9/10)
  2. Lam Lam: High St, Northcote (my rating: 8.5/10)
  3. Pho Bo Ga Mekong Vietnam: Swanston St, CBD (my rating: 6.5/10)
  4. Saigon Inn: Liverpool Lane, CBD (my rating: 6.5/10)
  5. Cafe 58: Johnston St, Fitzroy (my favourite!!!! my rating: 10/10)
  6. Mandalay Bay: Brunswick St, Fitzroy (my rating: 9/10)
